Alder wood is not durable, but has a fairly uniform structure that facilitates processing, and a beautiful reddish color. Smoother and thicker trunks therefore go for handicrafts, for joinery and turning products, but the main mass of alder wood goes for firewood, usually usually valued by 10-30% cheaper than birch.
